Hydro-power specialist closes partnership agreement with Dutch government and peers
Tocardo International, the leading producer of hydro-power turbines, has signed an agreement with the Dutch government, universities and peers to promote the Netherlands’ green technology in the United States and Canada.
Tocardo signed the agreement as a member of the ‘Orange goes green’ platform of seven Dutch companies specializing in renewable energy and other ‘green’ technology. The platform’s goal is to sell their members’ technology into North America. The agreement with the Dutch government also includes promoting the exchange of knowledge between Dutch and North American public, private and scientific institutions.
“There are good opportunities for Dutch providers of green technology in the U.S. and Canada as they are among the world’s largest investors in renewable energy,” says Hans van Breugel, CEO.
Signed this week, the agreement is the first under the Partners for International Business (PIB) program launched by the Dutch government last year to promote new public-private partnerships.
The ‘Orange goes green’ platform includes Tocardo, Rabobank, Deerns, Ecofys, Priva, IF technology, Aqualiner. Dutch-American company, Real NewEnergy, a sustainable energy specialist, supports the initiative through its U.S. subsidiaries. The Netherlands’ Consulate general in San Francisco is the Dutch government’s primary partner in the project.
Tocardo develops and builds water turbines to harvest energy from the world’s oceans and rivers. It is at present the only company in the world commercially marketing mass-produced water turbines. Tocardo recently closed a deal to sell 25 of its T100 water turbines to Glow Tech Solutions of Nepal, one of biggest deals in the inshore hydro-power market to date.

TOCARDO International BV is a Dutch company dedicated to delivering the best and most economical turbines to harvest energy from the world’s oceans and rivers. Over the past 12 years, Tocardo has had many successes in offshore engineering and the development of renewable ocean energy devices. The TOCARDO free-flow in-stream hydro turbines can be compared to “underwater wind turbines”: free-standing underwater units, generating energy from sea currents and tidal and river flows. TOCARDO turbines offer the lowest possible kWh price through minimized maintenance and maximized power generation technology. They are easy to install and have no or limited environmental impact.
TOCARDO’s has entered the renewable energy market with 100 and 200 kW turbines. This technology is proven over three years in hostile currents of 4.5 m/s. The company is also developing a 500 kW and 1 MW offshore turbine.
